We’re excited to invite you to our upcoming SilkBeat performance on
May 9 at 5:00 PM at:
Good Hope Community Center
14715 Good Hope Rd
Silver Spring, MD 20905
SilkBeat is a duo blending Peruvian and Chinese influences through vocals, piano, and the Chinese zither (guzheng). Featuring Strathmore Artist in Residence alumni JChris (vocals and piano) and Qi Yu (guzheng), we will be performing with a full band in a program that spans musical traditions of Latin America and East Asia.
Inspired by the Silk Road’s legacy of cultural exchange, our music brings together melodies and rhythms from Peru and China in a contemporary way. The repertoire includes new arrangements of traditional music alongside original compositions in Spanish and Chinese, shaped by pentatonic textures, Afro-Peruvian grooves, cajón rhythms, and elements of modern composition.
This is a free show, open to all. Bring your friends, your family, and your love for live music. We would love to see you there.
